Eeeek A Bug!

Snapz Pro

If you haven't seen Snapz Pro, and are in need of a handy Screen Capture utility, you just have to check out this program. The product has been well received, and we are happy to report that the initial release has been extremely stable.

However, there were a couple of instances that escaped our gaze. Here they are, detailed for your enjoyment ;)

• Snapz Pro will not load properly on Systems running 7.1.2 or earlier. This is determined
by a red "X" through the icon at startup. The solution right now is to contact us via eMail
(help@AmbrosiaSW.com) and we will send you a revised version. This will be permanently
fixed in the next upgrade.

• Snapz Pro does not check to see if your hard drive is maxed out. What will happen is that
Snapz Pro will save a file in the chosen destination, but the file will be corrupted (incomplete).
Chances are your machine will freeze if you try to open the file. For now, watch your hard
drive space, and look for the upgrade in the near future.

• Some people using powerbooks and greyscale monitors have noticed that images grabbed
with Snapz Pro appears to be darker or lighter that the screen. This is caused by some
CLUT/Video card synching code in Snapz Pro. This has been fixed for the next version.

• Snapz Pro was having some difficulty determining the name of the front-most application.
Sometimes, the name of the resulting file would be named incorrectly. This has been
resolved and will be fixed in the forthcoming version.

• If you are using After Dark, the Snapz Pro Capture Palette will not be visible when you
press the Snapz Pro hot key. The reason? After Dark has the screen blanked and prevents
anything from being drawn on the screen. In this case, Snapz Pro will capture the entire
screen as a default. This isn't really a bug as much as it is a creative work-around.

• Snapz Pro does not work with several products from LucasArts. It seems that getting the
capture palette to appear can cause the machine to crash. We cannot say for sure that this
will be fixed in the next version, but as always, we have a solution for you. If you have
a need to capture one of these games, please use the previous version of Snapz, which
can be downloaded from our ftp site (ftp://ftp.AmbrosiaSW.com/pub/).

A new version of Snapz Pro will be released very soon. For notification, please sign up to our announcement list.

Bubble Trouble

Sine the last issue of The Ambrosia Times, we have come across a few more bugs in Bubble Trouble that we are working on. Here is the list, excluding what was reported in the last issue.

• When you get a high score, the name in the High Score dialog may be truncated (the last
few letters may not appear). This happens if you have previously entered a name that is
more that 9 characters. This will be corrected in the next version.

• Occasional, you may get an "Out of Memory" alert when beginning a new level. This is
caused by the game running out of memory when it tries to load in a new music track.
This can be solved temporarily by increasing the memory allocation for Bubble Trouble,
but will be permanently solved in the next version.

• Dynamite can be lit AND be pushed. In fact, you can achieve a "Dynamite Machine Gun"
effect by continuously pushing the Dynamite bubble repeatedly. Although this is a pretty
useful bug, it isn't the way the game should behave so it will be fixed in the next version.
Sorry folks ;)

• If you pop all of the bubbles on a level, you should get 2000 points, but a bug in the game
only gives you 1000 points.

• Pushing a diamond bubble in the space where Blinky appears can remove the bubble from
play. If you die and there is a bubble where Blinky appears, when you return to the game,
the bubble in Blinky's "start space" will no longer be a bubble. Either Blinky will simply
pass through the bubble, or the bubble will disappear from the play field altogether. This
is on the slate for the next version as well.

• This one is hard to reproduce - if a bouncing bubble is pushed towards a hatching critter,
the bouncing bubble will stop as the critter hatches. The critter will continue along
unharmed, but the bouncing bubble will remain lethal to Blinky, and if he touches it, he
will die :(

• One last bonus bug - if you have 4 of the 5 EXTRA letters, and the last letter appears at
the end of a round, grabbing the last letter during the dead time after the end of a round
will give you the 10,000 and an extra life. The bug happens when the next level starts -
all of the letters in the EXTRA graphic are hilighted, and grabbing another letter
(presumably the one you got at the end of the last round) will give ANOTHER 10,000
point and ANOTHER extra life. Enjoy it while it lasts, folks.

We should see a new version of Bubble Trouble soon. For those of you who think you're pretty good, get ready to test your skills against others who think they are pretty good in the Bubble Trouble High Score Contest, coming with the release of the next version.
